It's The Big One....We've been waiting for!

osuvsuscIt's The Big One....We've been waiting for!

It's finally here - THE Big Game!

I like the "Big Game", and, normally that title would be reserved for Michigan - but this Saturday, Sept.12th, is officially the "Big Game" of the year for the Buckeyes! USC vs. OSU in the "shoe" - college football doesn't get better than this!

To win, as in every game, OSU will have to dominate the line of scrimmage, both on offense and defense. There can be NO missed tackles, hit them HARD and often, make great plays with interceptions, recovered fumbles, sacks and tackles for losses.  As always, we have to play hard every single play.  And special teams will be very important!  We need to block a kick and not allow any blocked kicks on our side.  Our punts and kicks need to pen them deep in their own territory.

Then there is the mental aspect of this game.  The coaches need to psych these kids up - make them believe they CAN!  Because, if you think you can.....you can.  If you think you CAN'T, you are probably right.  And I think the mental aspect of this game is critical.  We have such an advantage being in the "Shoe", our home turf - and at night!  Our fans need to become a part of this game!  We need the noise, we need the excitement, we need our fans to DO THE JOB!!!

It's Tuesday - I think Saturday against the Navy showed us all that we have a ways to go to improve to the level we are capable.  But we only have four more days to get there - this will be the biggest challenge of the season and it is upon us!  I challenge all of you to do your part - and the Team will do theirs.

Coach, excellent idea for the blog site, could you take a few moments and explain the advantages of the zone blocking scheme as compared to normal drive blocking??? I have my doubts about "zone" blocking in short yardage and goal-line situations.

Coach...............has Jim ever considered that maybe for a game or 2 he might serve his in game feel better by going up into the booth. Not as a permanent move, but one to help him gain somemore perspective on what's happening with defensive stunts and coverages. Maybe that would help him to be able to counter with some better adjustments to catch the defense and put them on their heels, rather than trying to force something they are obviously prepared to defend?

Thanks Coach.

Coach Bruce,I just wanted to say that Tressel Bashing has already started.Alot of fans dont agree on how Jim Tressel is coaching the Buckeyes.I mean, when you play a tough team like USC,as a coach (like Coach Tressel)Tressel, should not play safe and settle for a 3 point win.Tressel should be more aggressive and tougher on the team and not be weak. You sir were a very good coach from what I have read and yes, lets not forget Coach Woody Hayes-One of the finest coaches in NCAA Football.Coach Hayes was not afraid to show the players who was boss on the field and I think that if Tressel was more tough and aggressive like Coach Hayes and yourself, maybe he would possibly win more games. If we keep playing like we did against USC,pople will not only lose faith in Coach Tressel but, lose faith in the OSU Buckeyes Football Team.Thank You Coach Bruce-James Seletyn
